Rabbi Avichai Apel, President of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference of Germany, spoke at the ceremony, which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock. In his speech, he urged the world to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons, and he especially singled out Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is a country with a Shia Muslim population, “where Jews have been treated with warmth and care for centuries, where there is no anti-Semitism, a country that opposes Iran.”
According to him, “unfortunately, a Muslim country that has opened its heart to Jews and an embassy in Israel does not receive adequate support from EU countries. On the contrary, the French Senate has called for an embargo on the purchase of gas and oil from this important country that takes a stance of security and conscientious morality, guarding the borders of Europe,” the rabbi stressed.
