Efforts by certain foreign states and organizations to use Armenian territory as a base for new threats are further aggravating an already tense regional situation, stated Ramil Usubov, Secretary of the Security Council of Azerbaijan, in an article published in the newspaper Azerbaijan.
“In response to such revanchist policies, Azerbaijan is steadily strengthening its security system, having fully developed an effective defense and strike strategy, allowing us to respond swiftly to any external impact,” Usubov emphasized.
He remarked that Azerbaijan is prepared to counter any attempt to exert pressure on the country’s security. “Not only Armenian revanchists but also major powers that disregard Azerbaijan’s independence and leadership should heed the lessons of recent years and remember the power of the ‘Iron Fist,'” added Usubov.
Usubov further stressed that as a victorious nation and a regional military power, Azerbaijan is in a position to compel Armenia toward lasting peace and the signing of a peace treaty, in line with international law. “In recent decades, we have seen the ‘peacekeeping’ actions of superpowers in Africa, Asia, and Europe under the principle that ‘the victors are not judged.’ Azerbaijan, despite its victory, negotiates without arrogance. The solution lies in mutual trust and Armenia’s liberation from external influence that leads it to failure. Armenian authorities must consider the interests of their state and people,” Usubov noted.
He also highlighted the importance of not only signing a peace agreement but ensuring its effective implementation. According to Usubov, progress in border delimitation and demarcation indicates that Azerbaijan and Armenia are close to achieving peace.
