“The European Union is openly abusing its relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia, promoting its mission on the territory of Armenia, which raises doubts about the efforts that this can bring to the peace process,” Lavrov said.
In turn, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov described the mission as a failure and stated that the assertions that its transition to a longer one has nothing to do with Azerbaijan are fundamentally wrong.
“The EU mission did not achieve its result. Moreover, we saw that with the start of the mission, the position of the Armenian side on all tracks of the negotiation process became, let’s say, more destructive. As for the smooth transition of this mission to a second, longer-term one, we believe that this has happened in violation of the agreements reached in October,” Bayramov said, adding that the mission should have been agreed with Azerbaijan just like the first one.
