Azerbaijani political analyst and head of the South Caucasus Research Center, Farhad Mammadov, shared this insight with minval.az.
“The central theme of President Ilham Aliyev’s speech today was security. The President clearly stated that there are no internal security risks within the country, as all threats originate from external forces. In this context, Armenia stands out as the ‘weak link,’ not by itself but through the support of foreign powers, as has been the case for the past three decades, potentially posing a threat to Azerbaijan,” the expert noted.
Furthermore, the political analyst believes that we must acknowledge that the current era is marked by wars and conflicts, and international law is failing in all directions, “which is why the issue of security remains a priority.”
“Security is ensured not only through military strength but also through foreign policy, diplomacy, and intelligence activities. The President outlined that our key approach to ensuring security is to actively promote Azerbaijan’s interests in foreign policy and continue strengthening our armed forces,” Mammadov added.
According to him, the significant focus on this topic indicates that “the situation we have unfortunately become accustomed to remains abnormal—whether concerning Armenia, the South, or the North. Therefore, we should not view this situation as stable.”
“The President of Azerbaijan demonstrated in his speech that the level of tension is very high, and this is a medium-term trend for which Azerbaijan must prepare,” Farhad Mammadov concluded.
