The statement reads:
“Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia share the view that a historic opportunity has presented itself to achieve long-awaited peace in the region. Both countries reaffirm their intention to normalize relations and reach a peace treaty based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As a result of negotiations between the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, an agreement was reached to take tangible steps to strengthen trust between the two countries.
Guided by the principles of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, Azerbaijan is releasing 32 Armenian servicemen. In turn, the Republic of Armenia, guided by the principles of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, is releasing 2 Azerbaijani servicemen.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Republic of Armenia is withdrawing its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29) in support of Azerbaijan’s candidacy. Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia hope that other countries of the Eastern European Group will also support Azerbaijan’s candidacy. As a gesture of goodwill, Azerbaijan supports the candidacy of the Republic of Armenia from the Eastern European Group for membership in the COP Bureau.
Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia will continue negotiations on the implementation of additional trust-building measures in the near future and call on the international community to support their efforts, which will contribute to establishing mutual trust between the two countries and positively impact the entire South Caucasus region.”
The list does not include separatists Araik Arutunyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Ruben Vardanyan, as well as Vagif Khachaturyan and Alyosha Khosrovyan, who have committed military crimes and crimes against humanity against the people of Azerbaijan.
