The exchange took place at the zero point of the Azerbaijan state border near the village of Balajafarli in the Gazakh district, on the highway formerly known as Gazakh-Ijevan.
Azerbaijan received back Huseyn Akhundov and Agshin Babirov.
Representatives of the State Border Service reported that this road leads to the Azerbaijani villages of Soflu and Barkhudarly, which are Azerbaijani exclaves on the territory of Armenia. To the right of the exchange location, also on Armenian territory, is another Azerbaijani exclave, the village of Yukhari Eskipara, and in total, there are seven such villages.
Directly above the exchange site, on a hill, is a fortified Armenian post. The hilly elevation extends for several hundred meters along the road, and at its end, another Armenian post is constructed.
According to representatives of the State Border Service, not all Armenian posts along this part of the state border are located on high ground. There are places where Azerbaijani fortified border posts occupy more advantageous positions. Moreover, the surrounding area is mined, both on our side and the Armenian side.
