The Minister of Agriculture, Mejnun Mamedov, made this statement at the opening ceremony of the International Conference ‘Baku Water Week,’ as reported by Report.
“About 70% of the world’s water resources are used in agriculture, and Azerbaijan is no exception in this regard,” noted the minister.
Mamedov emphasized that Azerbaijan must take seriously the challenge associated with global climate change.
“In Azerbaijan, there are about 1.5 million hectares of irrigated areas, of which 78% are used for annual crops, 9% for perennial crops, and 13% for irrigated pastures.”
Mamedov added, “Approximately 90% of the agricultural produce in the country comes from irrigated fields.
