Speaking about Azerbaijan’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Elchin Amirbayov noted that “Azerbaijan, being a country with a predominantly Muslim population, arguably has the best relationship with Israel in the world”:
“This is more than just friendship. To understand this, one only needs to look at the peaceful living conditions of the Jewish community in our country. We believe that the conflict is territorial, not religious in origin. We mourn the human casualties on both sides, and that is why we voted for a ceasefire in Gaza, like the majority of UN countries. We believe that peace should be restored as soon as possible, innocent people should not die, and we support the well-known solution that implies the formula ‘two states for two peoples’.”
