This was stated in a press release from the OPEC Secretariat following today’s meeting between the Secretary-General of the oil cartel, Mohammad Barkindo, and the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, President of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, in Vienna.
“Today, under the chairmanship of Mohammad Barkindo and Mukhtar Babayev, a high-level dialogue took place at the OPEC headquarters in Vienna as part of the preparations for COP29. The OPEC Secretary-General emphasized that the relations between the organization of oil-exporting countries and Azerbaijan are experiencing a ‘golden era,’ and noted that the strength of these ties is evident due to the ongoing cooperation under the Declaration of Cooperation and the Cooperation Charter [OPEC+],” the statement said.
The OPEC Secretary-General also highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s inclusive approach to COP29, which ensures that all opinions, including those of players in the oil industry, will be heard, noting that “this constructive approach aligns with OPEC’s and its member countries’ perspective.”
He also expressed full support from OPEC to Azerbaijan and COP29 in the coming months and wished them success.
