According to AZERTAC, the head of the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, and chairman of the Organizing Committee, Samir Nuriyev, reported on the work done following the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev in preparation for COP29 since the last meeting, including the implementation of the COP29 Action Plan.
Samir Nuriyev announced that the logo and slogan of COP29 have been determined, with the motto “Unite for a green world!” chosen for the event.
He noted that COP29 and the Leaders’ Summit will take place at the Baku Olympic Stadium, where design work is currently underway onsite. Samir Nuriyev mentioned that on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, invitation letters have been sent to the heads of state and government of the participating countries of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Highlighting Azerbaijan’s active participation in significant international climate change events, including the World Bank’s spring session in Washington and the Petersburg Climate Dialogue, Nuriyev emphasized the importance of thorough preparation for the upcoming Bonn Climate Change Conference in June.
Discussing Azerbaijan’s priorities during COP29, Nuriyev noted that the agenda for the COP29 presidency activities is in its final stages.
He also highlighted the launch of the official COP29 website, the extensive local media coverage of the process, and active engagement with foreign media, with interviews from the COP29 team being published in prestigious international publications.
Samir Nuriyev also informed about the work done in the country related to the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World.”
Subsequently, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, appointed as the president of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, discussed the ongoing preparations and international visits by the COP29 team.
Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, talked about organizational and logistical preparations for COP29.
The Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev, announced a preliminary list of public and private medical institutions that will provide medical services during COP29, with volunteers also being involved.
A Member of Parliament, Sevinj Fataliyeva, reported on parliamentary level efforts related to COP29, including active cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs at the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, and head of the COP29 Organizing Committee Secretariat, Habib Mikayilli, spoke about coordinating the work of government bodies and providing institutional support to the president’s COP29 team and communication issues.
Deputy Minister of Energy, and CEO for “COP29 Azerbaijan,” Elnur Sultanov discussed Azerbaijan’s Nationally Determined Contributions and efforts with the private sector and youth.
Founder of the SmartNation platform, Shabnam Mammadova, talked about the role of innovations and smart technologies in combating climate change.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and chief negotiator of COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, informed about initiatives included in the COP29 presidency program and preparations for discussions and negotiations with various countries and negotiation groups.
The Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan, Ulvi Mehdiyev, discussed streamlining visa procedures for COP29 participants.
The Chairman of the Board of the Social and Environmental Center EkoSfera, Firuza Sultan-zade, spoke about the role of civil society at COP29 and ensuring the participation of environmental NGOs in the event.
In conclusion, instructions were given for the implementation of the action plan related to the organization and conduct of COP29 and other relevant issues.
