Earlier, the community presented a comprehensive parallel report to the UN committee in connection with Armenia’s 4th report on the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
Moreover, the community’s representative, Kyamal Jafarov, participated in the committee’s meeting.
In their report, the community reminded of Armenia’s violation of this pact and other international human rights conventions during the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis from their native lands. The community also called on the committee to take urgent measures in connection with these legal violations by Armenia.
It is noted that the issues raised by the community were reflected in the committee’s final document.
The committee called on Armenia to take measures to maintain a registry of cultural and religious monuments belonging to national minorities and at risk of disappearing. The final document also states that Armenia’s legislation and practice violate the rights of national minorities and refugees.
The community emphasized that reflecting the issues raised by the community in the UN committee’s document is an important step towards restoring the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia.
