This trip, which took place on January 8th, saw the President leading a distinguished delegation from the UAE for discussions with Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev.
During the initial phase of this visit, Sheikh Mohamed participated in a ceremonial activity, paying respects at significant historical sites, as reported by a UAE state news outlet.
Accompanying the President were several high-ranking UAE officials, including the Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and various other ministers and advisors specializing in fields like energy, industry, investment, and diplomatic affairs.
In the evening, President Aliyev hosted a formal dinner in honor of the visiting UAE delegation.
Details about the specific topics of the meetings were not disclosed. However, it’s anticipated that Azerbaijan may seek insights from the UAE’s recent experience in hosting a major international climate summit (COP28), as Azerbaijan prepares for a similar event (COP29) later this year. This upcoming summit is set to be a landmark event for the South Caucasus region.
