As reported by Report, the head of the UN Population Fund office in Azerbaijan, Farid Babayev, made this statement during public hearings in the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) on the topic of “Improving Legislation on the Rights of Women and Children: Current Situation and New Challenges.”
Babayev reminded that Azerbaijan has surpassed China in the number of selective abortions, a position China held for many years.
According to the UN representative, if this negative trend is not changed, the country will face certain problems by 2050.
“To address this issue, it is necessary to educate society and implement various activities in this direction. There is also a need for specific changes in legislation,” he said.
