Azerbaijan is a “special friend” of Georgia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in an interview with Channel One of the Public Broadcaster, Minval Politika reports.
He noted that relations between the governments of the two countries are “exclusively friendly.” “I had a very friendly meeting with the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, in Turkmenistan. Azerbaijan is our special friend, so it will not be difficult for us to find common ground on any issue,” Kobakhidze emphasized.
The Prime Minister added that the negotiations focus on the final coordination of transit from Azerbaijan through Georgian territory. “The interests of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides are important to us. We also have our own interests, and I think that based on the results of the negotiations, we will easily find the best solution that serves the interests of all three countries,” he said.
“We hope that we will reach an agreement with Azerbaijan on gas purchases as well,” Kobakhidze added, noting that negotiations with Azerbaijan are ongoing on all issues.
“We have extremely good relations, which gives grounds for optimism. We hope that an agreement beneficial to both sides will be reached,” Kobakhidze concluded.
