In January, Azerbaijan experienced a wedding boom. According to Minval, this is evidenced by data from the State Statistical Committee.
During the first month of the current year, 4,717 new families were registered in the country, which is 1,060 more than in the same period last year. It can be assumed that this wedding frenzy was influenced by the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, during which it is traditionally preferred in Azerbaijan not to hold wedding celebrations.
Meanwhile, statistics also show a slight increase in the number of divorces across the country. In January, 1,814 marriages were dissolved, which is 85 more cases than in January 2024.
According to the State Statistical Committee, as of February 1, 2025, the country’s population reached 10,227,824 people, increasing by 2,935 people or 0.03% since the beginning of the year. Of this number:
- 54.4% live in urban areas,
- 45.6% in rural areas,
- 49.8% are men,
- 50.2% are women.
In January 2025, 8,557 newborns were registered at registry offices, 0.2% more than in the same month of 2024. The birth rate per 1,000 people increased from 9.7 to 9.9. Among the newborns:
- 54.6% were boys,
- 45.4% were girls,
- 352 were twins,
- 12 were triplets.
Additionally, 5,727 deaths were recorded in January 2025, reflecting a slight increase of 0.2% compared to January 2024. The mortality rate rose from 6.4 to 6.6. While 5,518 citizens passed away in 2024, this number increased to 5,727 in 2025.
