During the phone conversation, there was an exchange of views on the current situation in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan after anti-terrorism activities against Armenian armed forces.
The head of state noted that during the anti-terrorism activities, which concluded in less than 24 hours, the aim was only at military targets, with no harm inflicted on civilians.
The American side was informed that at present, the process of disarming illegal Armenian armed forces and their withdrawal from the territory of Azerbaijan is underway. It was emphasized that hundreds of units of military equipment, weapons, and ammunition, as well as military gear, have been confiscated over the last five days.
It was noted that accredited military representatives of foreign countries and the representative of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office conducted an inspection of the collected weapons and military equipment.
President Ilham Aliyev underscored that at the moment, relevant work is being carried out to ensure the rights of Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region, as well as other ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, within the framework of the country’s legislation and international obligations.
The head of state noted that dialogue is being held between representatives of Azerbaijan and representatives of Armenian residents on issues of reintegration, Azerbaijan sends humanitarian aid to Armenian residents, and infrastructure is being restored in the territory.
It was emphasized that cooperation is being carried out with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the field of providing assistance to Armenian residents, and the readiness of the Azerbaijani side to organize a trip of the accredited UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in our country to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in the near future was brought to attention.
Blinken expressed concern about the emerging situation, noted the importance of ensuring stability in the region, and dialogue with local Armenians.
