Will EU last in Baku-Yerevan negotiation process?

Head of the Center for Studies of the South Caucasus (CSSC), pundit Farhad Mammadov analysed the possible continuation of the European Union’s mediation mission between Baku and Yerevan on his Telegram channel.

“Brussels’ mediation between Azerbaijan and Armenia is undergoing a test of strength… in principle, like all Western mediation.

Let me remind you how the EU entered the mediation. There was a regional visit, during which Michel announced financial packages to countries, and the financial package of Armenia, which occupied the territory of Azerbaijan for 26 years, was 15 [!!!] times bigger than the financial package to Azerbaijan, a victim of aggression! Only after Azerbaijan was allocated almost the same amount of money could the EU become an ‘honest broker’. By the way, how much of this financial package was given to Azerbaijan during these 2 years? For reconstruction, demining, aid, after all!

After all, what does the EU need this for? Do Europeans even care about the opinion of the Azerbaijani public? Surely not, or different steps would be taken.

The enemy does not sleep!

Armenia left no hope for the UN Security Council resolution. Meanwhile, the Armenian foreign minister continues making calls to the EU states.

France ensures a pro-Armenian stance of the EU central institutions and the European Parliament. That leaves the marginalised Charles Michel, whose mediation mission was defeated by France.

What is the French-Armenian tandem capable of?

Decisions in the EU are taken by consensus, so the support of all members [!!!]is needed for serious decision-making. And this is difficult, one could say impossible.

Then it remains to act within the framework of what we have: the EU mission in Armenia, Michel’s mediation, financial packages, and strategic projects.

Let’s see how far can France go…

Speaking to Baku in the language of threats is pointless! At the same time, threatening to suspend Michel’s mediation is the biggest folly the EU can do. So what if there is no Brussels format?! I mentioned financial packages for a reason.

After Michel’s departure as a mediator, the EU’s attitude to the topic will change. The financial package to Azerbaijan may be frozen, the peace deal process will also be frozen. Sanctions?! I do not think, no, I am even confident that it will not happen, and not that they will not try… they will try, but it will not work out. In some countries, by the way, it can be realised…

Azerbaijan will not be invited to the European Community summit?! That will be impudent, but sincere….

Can’t contain the French influence on mediation?!

It is not Azerbaijan that will distance itself from the EU, but the EU itself will distance itself from Azerbaijan for the benefit of France and Armenians.

The EU demands from Azerbaijan the “Lachin corridor”, and in return does not even talk about the limits of “the rights and security of the Armenians of Garabagh”!

Go ahead, play into Russia’s hands in the region, that’s what the EU, all of France, is all about!

France wants strategic autonomy for the EU, so for this, it is necessary to conduct foreign policy in such a way that the Americans after the Europeans do not clean up their mistakes (see the forgery of the topic in the UN Security Council), and that Russia does not use the voids that are formed after the EU’s legacy!

If the EU withdraws from the process and takes the pro-Armenian side, the Europeans will thereby demonstrate that they have not matured enough for independence, they will ink a sign of failure in their claim for subjectivity…

Yes, we are once again entering a period of turbulence… the most important thing at the moment of shaking is that the aircraft does not lose altitude, the rest is passable.

Europeans who visit Baku ask and sometimes demand, an understanding of the subject of Garabagh Armenians…

Have the Europeans themselves even once shown an understanding of Azerbaijan’s position, of the opinion of Azerbaijanis?! You want to help Armenia, please, but not at our expense!

Have they even once asked themselves what Armenia and the Armenians of Garabagh have done during these almost three years to be treated with understanding?! And what have the Europeans themselves done for this, except for making ambiguous statements and wanting a customs scanner for Russian peacekeeping contingent on the Lachin road?!” Farhad Mammadov wrote.
