Armenia and Azerbaijan reached an agreement on a peace treaty on Thursday, bringing an end to a 40-year-long conflict. The agreement provides pro-Western Azerbaijan with a strategic foothold to weaken Iran’s threat to the region and beyond. With the signing of the peace treaty, Baku now has the opportunity to shift its focus to Tehran.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, written by Seth Cropsey and Joseph Epstein.
According to the publication, Azerbaijan has found a friend in Israel, where it is believed that Trump’s Abraham Accords should be extended to pro-Western Baku in order to counter the threat posed by neighboring Iran.
The article also notes that last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that Israel aims to establish a strategic alliance between Israel, the U.S., and Azerbaijan.
