President Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s close military ties with Türkiye, noting that the two nations conduct over ten joint exercises annually, with an equal split between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. “In fact, we have achieved a high degree of operability of military operations. Of course, this is an important factor for stability in the Caucasus,” he said.
Reflecting on the shifting global dynamics, President Aliyev remarked: “Today’s world, and the way events are unfolding, is further evidence that the world has changed dramatically. The realities that were created, and the rules of the game defined by the results of World War II, no longer work. Even global actors are not hiding this.”
The President highlighted Azerbaijan’s unique position on the global stage, as a country maintaining alliances with both Russia and Türkiye, despite their differing international alignments.
“Due to the peculiarities of foreign policy, Azerbaijan, a country pursuing an independent foreign policy, is perceived as an absolutely independent player both in the West and in the East,” he explained. “It is the only country that is an ally of Russia and, at the same time, an ally of Türkiye, a NATO member. There is no other such country in the world.”
Touching on Azerbaijan’s relationship with Russia, President Aliyev reaffirmed the mutual trust and partnership between the two nations: “Today, Russia and Azerbaijan are two reliable partners, and I think that there is no doubt about this in Azerbaijan or Russia.” He also underscored the historical understanding and friendly actions between the countries during challenging times, expressing confidence that this relationship will continue to thrive.
President Aliyev concluded by stressing the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties: “We keep on finding new areas for trade and economic cooperation,” he stated, signaling optimism for future collaborations.
