President Ilham Aliyev spoke about corrupt politicians who have supported the Armenian diaspora for decades during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 12th Global Baku Forum.
“…We raise these issues before the representatives of Armenia and their new leaders sitting in Brussels. Now they have replaced their [Armenians’] ‘big brother.’ Now this ‘big brother’ is Brussels. As a result of the step taken by President Trump, the USAID organization, which was subordinate to the U.S. State Department, was abolished. And the corrupt politician Robert Menendez is facing serious problems. But he is neither the first nor the last. As the saying goes, one swallow does not make a spring. Because people like him take money from the [Armenian diaspora] and put it in their own pockets. For example, the same Mr. Adam Schiff, Mr. Frank Pallone, Mrs. Nancy Pelosi, and many others engage in this. For decades, they have been receiving money from Armenian diaspora organizations in the U.S. to attack Azerbaijan and discredit it,” the president emphasized.
Aliyev also highlighted Azerbaijan’s past cooperation with the United States, stating:
“For decades, we built those relations. We were a reliable, close partner with the U.S., and they were with us when they needed us, and we were with them. When it came to Iraq—yes. When it came to Afghanistan—yes. As a non-NATO country, we joined the operations in Afghanistan in 2020, and we were the last to leave.”
The head of state stressed that despite Azerbaijan’s contributions, sanctions were imposed on the country after its withdrawal, which caused great disappointment in Azerbaijan.
