China ranks as Azerbaijan’s fourth-largest trading partner and the country’s leading source of imports, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev said in an interview with China’s People’s Daily.
According to him, from January to September of this year, trade turnover between the two countries reached $3.4 billion, marking a 28% increase compared to the same period last year. The total volume of Chinese investment in Azerbaijan’s economy has exceeded $950 million, and more than 370 Chinese companies are currently operating in the country.
Mustafayev noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and China spans both traditional sectors — trade, transport, energy, and agriculture — and emerging fields such as the digital economy, green energy, and artificial intelligence.
Within the framework of bilateral partnership, a number of memorandums of understanding have been signed on investment in the digital economy, smart logistics, the Internet of Things, industrial digitalization, technological innovation, and personnel exchange.
The deputy prime minister emphasized that digital transformation is one of the key priorities of Azerbaijan’s policy for modernizing public administration, developing business, and improving public services.
According to Mustafayev, Azerbaijan intends to actively study and adopt China’s experience in the fields of digital economy, smart cities, and low-carbon development, which will further deepen the strategic cooperation between the two nations.
