The document was signed by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, who is visiting China, and the Minister of Ecology and Environmental Protection of China, Huang Runqiu, as reported by AzerTAc.
The memorandum stipulates that the parties will cooperate in the field of environmental protection, combating climate change, solid household waste management, biodiversity protection and ecology restoration, environmental monitoring, and other areas. Azerbaijan and China will also develop cooperation in the field of “green” development within the framework of international and regional organizations. For these purposes, information exchange and mutual visits will be carried out, joint events organized, scientific research conducted, and joint projects implemented.
At the meeting of the Azerbaijani delegation with the Minister of Ecology and Environmental Protection of China, Huang Runqiu, it was noted that mutual trust and friendly relations between the heads of state, Ilham Aliyev and Xi Jinping, ensure the rapid development of Azerbaijani-Chinese ties in various fields. It was pointed out that Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to support China’s initiatives, including the “One Belt, One Road” strategy.
The ministers noted that Azerbaijan and China have great potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, including ecology, environmental protection, biodiversity, combating climate change, and “green” development.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan consistently supports international efforts in the field of environmental protection and global climate change and contributes to this process, Minister Mukhtar Babayev informed his colleague about the preparations for the next 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
The Minister of Ecology and Environmental Protection of China, Huang Runqiu, expressed confidence that Azerbaijan would successfully organize COP29 – one of the largest and most prestigious events in the world, stating that his country is ready to actively participate in COP29 and provide comprehensive support to Azerbaijan.
