President Ilham Aliyev stated this on March 14, speaking at the opening ceremony of the XI Global Baku Forum on the theme “Fixing the Fractured World,” as reported by AzerTAc.
The head of state emphasized that then the Azerbaijani side began to insist on obtaining permission to remove the monument.
“Because it was an insult to us. It was a humiliation. And in a country like France, which claims the role of a ‘moral leader,’ such things are unacceptable in many cases. Several more months passed before we removed the monument from Evian and delivered it to the garden of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Paris, where it remains to this day,” noted Ilham Aliyev.
