During a recent meeting in Baku, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Romanian Minister of Energy, Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, discussed the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Romania, with a particular focus on energy cooperation. President Aliyev highlighted the active development of bilateral relations and the importance of reciprocal state visits to enhance these ties. He praised the agenda of the 8th meeting of the Joint Commission on economic-trade relations and scientific-technical cooperation, which includes critical discussions on energy among other issues.
The meetings underscore Azerbaijan’s significant projects in the energy sector, especially in green energy, and the country’s involvement in the 10th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 2nd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting. Minister Burduja congratulated President Aliyev on his re-election and the selection of Azerbaijan to host COP29, expressing admiration for the development under Aliyev’s leadership and the beauty of Baku.
The discussions also covered the advancement in the energy sector, with a focus on the export of natural gas and green energy from Azerbaijan to Romania via the Black Sea, and ongoing projects in LNG, green energy, and gas supply. Economic and trade relations were also a highlight, with a noted 30 percent increase in trade turnover between the countries, reaching $670 million. The meeting addressed the expansion of cooperation across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, and education, marking a significant step in the deepening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Romania.
