The announcement was made by Sabina Aliyeva, Azerbaijan’s Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsperson), during an interview with Report.
Aliyeva stated that detailed information about the report will be shared with the press on the day of its release. The report is expected to shed light on human rights violations and war crimes during the decades-long conflict over the Karabakh region.
Aliyeva highlighted that the issue of Karabakh remains central to Azerbaijan’s human rights advocacy efforts. Speaking at the 24th Session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah on November 24, she reiterated Azerbaijan’s stance on the issue.
The OIC has historically supported Azerbaijan’s position, recognizing the Khojaly genocide as an act of genocide and condemning actions such as the bombing of Barda city by Armenian forces. Aliyeva noted that the OIC continues to adopt resolutions and decisions that align with Azerbaijan’s views on the conflict. A joint report with the OIC on these issues is also in development.
Aliyeva is currently in Ankara, participating in the inaugural meeting of the International Council of the Turkic World Mediators Union. This event underscores Azerbaijan’s efforts to engage with international organizations and regional alliances in addressing the legacy of the Karabakh conflict and ensuring justice for alleged war crimes.
The release of the report on World Human Rights Day will provide further insight into Azerbaijan’s narrative and its ongoing efforts to hold Armenia accountable for past actions in Karabakh. It also reflects the country’s broader commitment to highlighting these issues on the global stage.
