Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced via his social media account on X that Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov, and Georgia’s Minister of Economy Vakhtang Tsintsadze have taken the first concrete step within the framework of the “Green Electricity Transmission and Trade Project.”
The multilateral process has been formalized with the signing of the memorandum of understanding.
“Thanks to this project, whose foundation we laid last year at the Istanbul Energy Forum, the four countries will be connected to each other through new electricity transmission lines. It will enable cross-border transmission and trade of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. Once the project is implemented, electricity transmission systems will be modernized, generation infrastructure will operate more efficiently, and energy supply security will be enhanced. This strategic cooperation will make a significant contribution to the energy future of our region in terms of sustainability, efficiency, and integration. I hope our agreement will be beneficial for our country and all parties,” Minister Bayraktar stated in his post.
Separately, on Friday, the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAŞ) and Azerbaijan’s largest electricity producer “Azerenerji” signed an operational agreement to expand energy cooperation.
“Following our meeting with Mr. Shahbazov, we signed an operational agreement between TEIAŞ and Azerenerji, which will further promote the development of our energy cooperation,” Bayraktar wrote on X.
He added that the agreement will ensure uninterrupted and reliable electricity transmission between Türkiye and Nakhchivan and will lead to the modernization of existing infrastructure and an increase in transmission capacity.
Bayraktar also emphasized that the energy bridge between the two brotherly countries will open the door to a new era of regional energy cooperation.
