The inaugural Baku Climate Action Week, taking place from September 30 to October 4, 2024, has begun and serves as a vital platform for shaping the climate agenda in the lead-up to COP29. The event has gathered over 700 participants from around the world, including sustainability experts, policymakers, private sector leaders, and civil society representatives. The goal is to explore and accelerate the adoption of scalable climate solutions. The week will feature roundtables, plenaries, and panel discussions aimed at fostering international collaboration and advancing sustainable climate initiatives.
The official opening ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President-Designate, COP29 High-Level Champion Nigar Arpadarai, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, as well as other officials and international guests. During the event, Mukhtar Babayev announced that Azerbaijan has submitted a bid to host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), scheduled for 2026. The final decision on this will be made during the 16th Conference in Cali, Colombia, in three weeks.
