This was stated by Matthew Bryza, a board member of the Jamestown Foundation, former US ambassador to Azerbaijan, and international expert, as quoted by “Azertac”. He also praised the fact that Azerbaijan is on the verge of a peace agreement with neighboring Armenia, calling it a “truly significant moment” in Azerbaijan’s history.
“Following last September’s operation, Azerbaijan has fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Azerbaijan announced that it would carry out this operation without civilian casualties, targeting only military objectives, which it achieved. It eliminated the separatist regime that sought to ignite conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and potentially start a new war,” he said.
The international expert also congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting COP29.
“I already congratulate Azerbaijan because, as the host of COP29, it leads efforts to prevent global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees and to combat climate change,” noted Matthew Bryza, adding that, in his opinion, this May 28th was the happiest Independence Day because the main goal was achieved: Azerbaijan reclaimed its lands and is ensuring the Great Return of residents to Karabakh and seven surrounding districts.
