Yalli, a traditional group dance, is considered a gem and the oldest form of Azerbaijani culture.
“These dances are an expression of the past and present, the national traditions of the Azerbaijani people. A great effort is required to preserve this folk heritage, which has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.”
The article points out that according to experts, there are over a thousand types of Yalli in Azerbaijan, including Kochari, Uchayag, Tello, Tenzere and Galadangalaya.
The traditional group dances of Nakhchivan (Kochari, Tenzere) have been included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
