The briefing opened with a speech by Narmin Jarchalova, Chair of COP29 Azerbaijan OC and Chief Operating Officer of the conference. She emphasized that only a few weeks remain until COP29, and preparations are progressing according to schedule. She also highlighted that the construction and installation phase at Baku Stadium is nearing completion, with the handover to the UNFCCC planned for November. Jarchalova elaborated on the infrastructure and zoning arrangements for participants.
A strong focus was placed on sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity throughout the event. Ismayil Isayev, a member of the COP29 Coordination Board, provided detailed information on the services and arrangements for delegations and guests, including accreditation and registration processes. He also discussed the efforts to enhance city navigation and the issuance of special COP29 visas for participants.
Shahla Abbakirova, another member of the COP29 Coordination Board, discussed the upcoming World Leaders Climate Action Summit, scheduled for the early days of the conference. She shared insights on the organizational aspects of this major event.
Orkhan Mahmudlu, Head of Transport Operations, emphasized the importance of a well-organized transport system. He introduced an interactive city map and explained the measures in place to ensure smooth transportation for visitors and residents during COP29.
