According to Khanumyan, for now they will be using the Khankendi–Lachin–Goris road. “The alternative route will run along the new southern corridor. The new road will be open for traffic only after all the checkpoints of the Russian peacekeeping forces have been deployed,” the separatist claims.
He says that meanwhile a temporary 4.5-km section of the road will be built, part of which has already been asphalted and will be completed within the next few days.
“The new road is expected to be opened for traffic in the first week of September,” Khanumyan says. According to him, the temporary section of the new highway bypasses Lachin, Zabukh and Sus, which finally return to Azerbaijan after years of occupation, then merges with the Zabukh–Tug road.
