“Resettlement to Khankendi will begin in September. The first to move will be students and their teachers. Karabakh University will start its activities. Therefore, on one side there will be Khankendi, on the other – Aghdam, and people will start returning to the city of Aghdam next year,” stated President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with residents who relocated to the city of Khojaly on May 28.
The head of state also said, “I have given an order regarding the railway. A project is being prepared for the restoration, that is, the reconstruction of the Aghdam-Khankendi railway. I have been presented with the project for the Khankendi railway station. Probably, that station will be located in a slightly different, more suitable place. Therefore, from here – from Khankendi, Khojaly, it will be possible to travel in any direction by railway. Both to Baku and westward to Ganja. Thus, travel will be comfortable.”
President Aliyev announced the expansion of the Aghdam-Askeran-Khankendi road: “Now it will be a four-lane road. You have probably seen the Aghdam-Barda road. How beautiful it has become. From this side, it is only a 20-minute drive to the city of Shusha, and from there – to Lachin. Several tunnels and bridges are being built on the Lachin-Shusha road. You have probably traveled on that road many times. All of them used to be serpentine roads. We are straightening these serpentines, bridges, tunnels. It will take a maximum of 25 minutes to get from the city of Shusha to Lachin. This means that from here it will be very convenient to reach all neighboring areas.”
