At the meeting, Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan holds great respect for Mevlut Cavusoglu, highly appreciating his support for the country at all times, and noted that this is greatly valued by the Azerbaijani people. Ilham Aliyev recalled that during the Second Karabakh War, Mevlut Cavusoglu consistently made important statements. These statements, in turn, played a significant role in thwarting the actions of those who intended to interfere in Azerbaijan’s affairs.
The head of state highlighted the importance of further strengthening the Azerbaijani-Turkish alliance, emphasizing that the current processes in the world in general and in the South Caucasus, in particular, have taken a very dangerous direction. The President added that in this context, Azerbaijan rightly expresses its concern, as the plan devised for the South Caucasus could lead to a major catastrophe in the future.
Ilham Aliyev stated that the liberation of Karabakh from occupation, especially the anti-terrorist operation undertaken by Azerbaijan in September last year, alarmed some forces. Ilham Aliyev reported that since then, pressure on our country continues to this day. The President noted that the European Parliament adopted resolutions full of insults, and PACE deprived our delegation of the right to vote. Ilham Aliyev stressed that these steps, which could lead to very negative consequences, were taken for one reason – because of the liberation of Karabakh from occupation.
Addressing today’s trilateral meeting in Brussels between the USA, the European Union, and Armenia, the head of state stated that this creates another source of threat for the South Caucasus. Ilham Aliyev noted that although in recent days high-ranking officials from the USA and the European Union, during phone calls initiated by them, tried to convince that this meeting is not aimed against Azerbaijan, we perceive the purpose of this meeting as creating dividing lines and isolating Azerbaijan.
