The King will not attend the Cop29 climate summit being hosted by Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, Belfast Telegraph reports. It is understood that the King’s absence is due to medical advice, as he continues to receive treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, which he has been battling since the start of the year.
King Charles, known for his strong stance on environmental issues, addressed the Cop28 summit in Dubai last year, where he urged immediate action to meet climate goals. However, his current health condition and a recent long trip to Australia and Samoa are key factors in his decision not to attend the upcoming summit in Azerbaijan.
Additionally, a planned visit to New Zealand has been canceled as part of adjustments to the King’s overseas tour based on medical recommendations.
The King will pause his treatment while abroad but is expected to resume it upon his return to the UK.
