In a letter addressed to Jeyhun Bayramov by 43 Milli Mejlis deputies, in response to a letter from a group of U.S. Congress members to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the following was stated:
“First of all, we would like to point out that with the restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the foundation for long-term peace and stability has been established in the region. By ending 30 years of occupation and injustice, Azerbaijan has not only safeguarded its national interests but also upheld the supremacy of international law. This situation enables Azerbaijan to more actively contribute to addressing global issues.
Following Azerbaijan’s restoration of its sovereignty on September 20, 2023, the unanimous support for the decision to hold the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Azerbaijan on December 9 of the same year is a testament to the strong backing of the international community for Azerbaijan’s views on issues of global peace and development. Azerbaijan’s ongoing high-level preparations for COP29 demonstrate how seriously it is addressing the fundamental challenges of climate change, which concern all of humanity,” the letter states.
