In an interview with Associated Press, Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and President of COP29, emphasized the significance of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP-29) in planning assistance for poorer nations.
“The next Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is crucial for planning aid for poorer countries,” he stressed.
According to Babayev, Baku is the place where common ground can be found on how wealthier countries can provide financial assistance to poorer nations, which typically contribute less to global warming but suffer most from its effects.
“The conference in Baku should build on last year’s successful agreement to phase out fossil fuels. This fall’s meeting should help countries unite in 2025 to enhance plans for limiting greenhouse gas emissions. We need to consider any possible actions or measures to bring parties closer together. We see Baku as a bridge between the developing and developed world,” added Babayev.
It was officially announced on December 11 in Dubai that COP29 would be held in Azerbaijan.
