Jovanovic highlighted that the non-participation of the Azerbaijani delegation in the assembly’s work is likely to be detrimental to the CoE as an organization.
“The CoE serves as a platform for cooperation and dialogue, and the absence of Azerbaijan in PACE will hinder the organization’s ability to effectively address regional issues,” he remarked.
He added that the Azerbaijani delegation’s reaction to the questioning of its credentials by some PACE members is not surprising.
The deputy reminded that the Council of Europe has repeatedly taken a principled stance on respecting the territorial integrity of its member states.
“It is crucial for the Council of Europe to ensure adherence to these principles without double standards. This is extremely important for maintaining the organization’s credibility and effectiveness,” he stated.
Jovanovic also believes that PACE should strive for consistency and fairness in its actions and decisions, treating all member countries equally.
“Double standards could undermine trust in the organization and impede its ability to facilitate cooperation and dialogue among member countries,” he concluded.
