A concert program directed by Azerbaijani composer Faradj Garayev was presented at the Muslim Magomaev State Academic Philharmonic of Azerbaijan. The event was part of the “Portrait of Faradj Garayev” project, organized to celebrate the composer’s 80th anniversary.
Before the concert began, musicologist, Honored Artist, and Professor Zümrüd Dadashzade spoke about Garayev’s contributions to the development of musical tradition and his body of work.
The concert featured performances by the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Orkhan Hashimov, the Azerbaijan State Choir Chapel led by People’s Artist Gülbadji Imanova, and soloists Farida Mammadova (soprano), Ilham Nazarov (countertenor), and Eldeniz Alekperzade (piano).
The evening’s program included works by Faradj Garayev, Ismail Hajibeyov, Gustav Mahler, Maurice Ravel, and John Tavener.
The “Portrait of Faradj Garayev” project, organized by the Ministry of Culture from April 20 to April 24, will continue with another concert at the International Mugham Center on April 23.
On the last day of the project, April 24, a lecture concert will take place at the Museum Center.
Faradj Garayev is an Azerbaijani composer, educator, and People’s Artist of Azerbaijan. He is renowned for his ballet “Shadows of Gobustan” and other musical works that have gained recognition in many countries around the world.
