BIG views this action as a violation of human rights and an attempt by France to exert pressure on the African people’s fight against neocolonialism.
BIG highlighted that Kémi Séba has long been a vocal opponent of neocolonial policies and is a key figure in the movement for the independence of African nations. His detention is seen as an effort by France to maintain its influence in Africa through illegitimate means, further demonstrating the persistence of colonialist thinking within the French state.
“Kémi Séba is a political prisoner, and his detention is directly tied to his political activism,” the statement said.
BIG called on the international community, human rights advocates, and organizations to condemn this act and demand the immediate and unconditional release of Séba. “We view this incident as a continuation of France’s neocolonial policies in Africa and call for global solidarity to initiate a process of decolonization in the region,” the group declared.
