In his speech, the head of state summarized the outcomes of 2024, highlighting the country’s key achievements in various fields.
The President noted that the year concluded with all set goals accomplished. Among the key achievements were the restoration of territorial integrity, the liberation of four villages in the Gazakh district, which had been under occupation since the 1990s, without the use of military force, strengthening defense capabilities, increasing Azerbaijan’s military budget for 2025 to a record 8.4 billion manats, as well as economic growth, including a GDP increase of over 4% and a 6% growth in the non-oil sector.
The implementation of social programs remains a priority. Starting in 2025, the minimum wage will rise to 400 manats, and the minimum pension to 320 manats. Significant funds have been allocated for the restoration of Karabakh and East Zangezur, where over 10,000 people have already returned. Since 2021, 19 billion manats have been allocated for these purposes.
Ilham Aliyev drew attention to ongoing threats from Armenia, including its large-scale militarization, which the President described as a source of regional threat. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus. The President stated, “The South Caucasus should become a region of peace, security, and cooperation. Azerbaijan will never forget 30 years of occupation, destruction, and suffering caused to its people.”
In his address, the President also mentioned the successful hosting of the major international event, the COP29 climate summit, in Baku. Representatives from 197 countries, including 80 heads of state and government, participated in the event. The summit was a vivid example of Azerbaijan’s growing international authority.
Concluding his address, the President congratulated all Azerbaijanis living both in the country and abroad. He expressed sincere wishes for health, prosperity, happiness, and success to the entire nation.
