The Secretariat of the United Nations (UN) has circulated the address by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to participants of the second international conference titled “The Right to Return: Ensuring Justice for Azerbaijanis Forcibly Expelled from Armenia,” held in Baku on December 5–6, 2024, as well as the conference’s final document, as official documents of the UN Security Council and General Assembly. This information was shared with Minval.az by the Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC).
The dissemination of President Ilham Aliyev’s address as an official UN document holds special significance in raising the international profile of the Western Azerbaijan issue. This step highlights the consistent attention of the head of state to the matter of ensuring the return of Azerbaijanis to their native lands, noted the WAC.
Similarly, the recognition of the conference’s final document as an official UN document is an effective step towards establishing the Western Azerbaijan Community as a respected institution in the international arena and bringing the conference’s outcomes to the attention of the global community. These documents contribute significantly to recognizing the annual international conference as one of the key platforms on the right to return and international humanitarian law.
The WAC reminded that with the publication of these documents, the total number of initiatives submitted by the community as official UN documents has reached ten.
“The Western Azerbaijan Community will continue to raise the issue of peaceful, safe, and dignified return on international platforms. It once again calls on the Armenian government to abandon the policy of racial discrimination initiated by their predecessors, fulfill their international obligations, ensure conditions for the return of Azerbaijanis to Western Azerbaijan, and engage in dialogue with the Western Azerbaijan Community,” stated the Community.
