According to the former minister, the structure of the questions showed that there is an intention to strengthen Western involvement in the post-conflict settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. There is also an understanding that Armenia can by no means be a participant in the post-conflict processes in East Zangezur.
The official statements that Azerbaijan is ready to put the restoration of historical justice for West Zangezur and Goycha Mahal on the post-conflict settlement agenda are also taken very seriously, and US diplomacy’s intensified activity in the issues raised during the visit of Armenian Foreign Minister to the US, including Advisor Sullivan’s meetings, are of temporary nature and most likely will not have serious consequences.
Nevertheless, the ex-foreign minister believes that Azerbaijan’s “Zangezur” political rhetoric has already started to yield dividends, and, if strengthened, it can completely neutralize Armenian speculations on the issue of the status.
