A major Turkish technology event will come to Azerbaijan for the first time later this year.
Teknofest will take place from May 26-29 in Baku. The event will include technology-related competitions in various fields, including rockets, agriculture and unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones. Azerbaijani companies and entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to display products, Turkey’s official Anadolu Agency reported.
Various Azerbaijani entities will participate in the competitions, including the Ministry of Energy, AzInTelecom LLC, the Azerbaijan Cyber Sports Federation and the International Bank of Azerbaijan, according to the official Azerbaijan State News Agency.
Teknofest began in 2018 in Turkey. In addition to the competitions, there are also seminars and exhibitions at the event. A variety of Turkish ministries and private companies are stakeholders in the Turkish version of the fair. These include the Turkish flying car Cezeri and the Ankara-based software firm HAVELSAN, according to Teknofest’s website.
Turkey and Azerbaijan enjoy close economic relations. Azerbaijan is also the largest foreign investor in Turkey via its state energy company SOCAR. Many associates of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have been awarded building contracts in the neighboring country. In October, Turkey agreed to import more gas from Azerbaijan.
Turkish-Azerbaijan cooperation also includes technology. Last year, Turkey’s Technopark Istanbul and Azerbaijan’s Innovation Agency signed a memorandum of understanding on creating joint high-technology zones.
