Edmon Marukyan, the Special Envoy of Armenia, expressed his discontent, alleging that the UN mission, which visited Karabakh and denied any evidence of ethnic cleansing, has in effect discredited the UN institution. Marukyan stated that the “so-called UN mission has done everything to legitimize ethnic cleansing,” and he “eagerly awaits a UN investigation into the actions of these representatives.”
It appears that Special Envoy Edmon Marukyan may have misconceived the UN as a branch of the Armenian National Committee of America. The fact remains that if there is no ethnic cleansing, the UN mission will not be able to confirm it. Furthermore, Armenian diplomacy seems set for another disappointment. The US State Department has had to acknowledge that there is no evidence of “ethnic cleansing” in Karabakh.
While it’s generally considered undiplomatic to openly discuss such matters, Armenia has been caught in misinformation too frequently in recent days and weeks for it to go unnoticed and without repercussions.
