In 1919, the occupied Ottoman Empire was divided between Sultan Mehmed VI Vahideddin and the resistance movement led by Mustafa Kemal Pasha, formed in Samsun in May of the same year. During this period, the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic saw Mehmed VI as the only legitimate ruler in the territory of Turkey.

Seeing that there was no political way for the NKAO to become part of Armenia, the Armenians began arming themselves in early 1989. Tensions were becoming apparent not only in the NKAO, but also in the surrounding areas.

The loss of Shusha and the signing of the statement on harsh terms came as a great shock to Armenia. Shortly after the statement was signed, a large crowd gathered in the center of Yerevan and stormed into the Armenian parliament.
Shusha is the most important location in the territory of Karabakh from the strategic and geographical point of view. Because of its strategic importance and ethnic diversity, Shusha was a battlefield three times in the twentieth century and once in the twenty-first century.
After the capture of Jabrayil, the 2nd corps split in two directions. The first group moved along the Geyan plain in the direction of Jabrayil and Zangilan, and the second group moved north and northeast of Jabrayil in the direction of Hadrut and Fizuli.
In the direction of Fizuli and Jabrayil, the Defense Army had fairly well-fortified positions, and even defense areas with long-term firing points and covers. The vast majority of these facilities were built during the First Karabakh War and modernized immediately after it ended.
On the first day of the attack, the Azerbaijani army was able to breach the front line in one or two directions. Around 4:30 p.m., the Azerbaijani army entered the villages of Boyuk Marjanli and Nuzgar in the Jabrayil direction. At the same time, 4 villages of Fizuli District were liberated from occupation.
The Armenians of Baku were so different because they were part of the "Bakintsy" ("Bakuvians"), a nation of sorts formed by Azerbaijanis, Jews, Russians and other ethnicities living in the city.
Azerbaijan gaining independence in 1991 spurred on political activism in South Azerbaijan as well. During this period, various legal and illegal parties were established by Iranian Azerbaijanis. The main organization founded at that time was the South Azerbaijan Devotees Organization established in the early 1990s.
In mid-April 1920, units of the 11th Red Army, which had defeated the remnants of Denikin's troops in southern Russia, approached the northern borders of Azerbaijan. On the night of April 27-28, 1920, the ADR government was overthrown.
After the February Revolution in Russia in 1917, an Armenian-Azerbaijani committee was established in Zangezur, with Goris as its center. The purpose of this committee was to establish regional autonomy within the Russian Federative Democratic Republic. However, the civil war that began in the country with the October Revolution also affected Zangezur Uyezd.
A note before I start: since I look at the concept of national identity through the prism of the word “nation” here, I will not differentiate between a “nation” and a “people”. Another note: the definition “Azerbaijanis” is used here to refer to this nation in different periods of its history.
The Dashnaks were supplied with ammunition and military equipment by the United States. The Dashnak army was equipped with vehicles and even planes. The arms factory in Kars and the cartridge factory in Alexandropol were funded by the Americans.
However, in the early years, women still could not fully comprehend the significance of the rights they had gained, and the relics of feudal patriarchal way of life hindered the handling of women's issues in Azerbaijan. Therefore, the issuance of decrees, resolutions and regulations and the adoption of laws did not mean actual gender equality.
Azerbaijanis are the second largest ethnic group in Georgia. Most of the Georgian Azerbaijanis live in the region of Kvemo Kartli (the municipalities of Marneuli, Bolnisi, Dmanisi and Gardabani), and in a small part in Kakheti and Shida Kartli. Azerbaijanis make up 84% of the population in Marneuli, 66% in Dmanisi, and 63% in Bolnisi, and 44% in Gardabani. According to official statistics for 2014, the total of 233,024 Azerbaijanis live in Georgia. 75% of them are Sunni Muslims and 25% are Shiites.
Comparing Azerbaijan with developed countries, many of us ask the question, “Why is it so different here?” Most Azerbaijanis are convinced that Western democracy can be easily introduced in our country. In their opinion, all it takes is for the government to change and for a new political elite that will care about the people to come to power.
The design showed the main Armenian settlements in the mountainous part of Karabakh, but there were some important exceptions in the plan that did not satisfy the Armenians. In the initial border design, a number of Armenian villages, the city of Shusha and its surrounding villages were not included in the borders of the autonomy.
Of all the disputed territories, the British included in Azerbaijan only Karabakh. After some time, this decision was officially announced. The order of the British Corps Commander to return all refugees, regardless of their nationality and religion, to Nakhchivan was just on paper and remained a pipe dream.
The main principle of anarchism is the destruction of state power because it goes against freedom of the individual. The Russian anarchist Bakunin, and later Kropotkin, said that an anarchist revolution by the people's will as inevitable in Russia.
