As reported by Aze.Media, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, and the embassy of our country in Italy, the Azerbaijani Pavilion was inaugurated on April 19 at the 60th Venice Biennale.
The 60th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art will last until November 24 under the slogan “Foreigners Everywhere.”
Located at Campo della Tana, one of the 16th-century architectural monuments in Venice, the Azerbaijani Pavilion, themed “From the Caspian to the Pink Planet: I Am Here,” reflects the slogan of the Biennale.
Speaking at the opening of the pavilion, Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, recalled the support projects provided by the Foundation to Azerbaijani artists in the past. He noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation also participates in organizing pavilions at the Venice Biennale.
Anar Alakbarov thanked everyone involved in creating the pavilion, including the project curator – a critic of contemporary art, professor of art history, and curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale, Luca Beatrice, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, as well as our country’s embassy in Italy.
Luca Beatrice, the curator of the Azerbaijani Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, emphasized that contemporary Azerbaijani architecture engages in a dialogue with history, and our art is the most accurate reflection of forward-looking relationships. Luca Beatrice encouraged attendees to visit Baku to understand the cultural and artistic temperament of our ancient country.
Afterward, guests were invited to explore the Azerbaijani Pavilion.
Among the visitors to our pavilion were also the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, and the Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates represented at the Venice Biennale, Salem bin Khaled Al Qasimi.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture, Adil Kerimli, met with the Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates, Salem bin Khaled Al Qasimi, and colleagues from other countries during the Venice Biennale. The meetings included discussions on the development of cultural cooperation and joint cultural projects.
Our country has been participating in the Venice Biennale, one of the most renowned global platforms for contemporary art, since 2007. At the Azerbaijani Pavilion of the 60th Venice Biennale, through a rich palette of works by honored artists Irina Eldarova, Rashad Alekberov, and artist Vusala Agaraziyeva, the theme of foreignness is explored, emphasizing its relevance to Azerbaijan.
