The oil and gas company has signed a cooperation agreement with engineering and technology firm Technip Energies to study sustainability measures for its upstream activities off the shores of Azerbaijan. They will seek to reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and optimise the total cost of ownership.
Currently, upstream operations in the Caspian Sea rely mainly on electricity from natural gas. Replacing this with sustainable energy would reduce emissions and increase gas exports. If realised, this pilot floating wind project will be the first offshore wind installation in Azerbaijan, SOCAR noted.
