This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, General Colonel Zakir Hasanov, at a press conference following the 10th trilateral meeting of the defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia in Baku, as reported by Azertag.
The Minister reported that the meeting discussed the effectiveness of the development of relations and activities between the three friendly and neighboring countries in bilateral and trilateral formats, the prospects for their further development, military-political processes occurring in the region and the world, ways to ensure stability in the region, and an exchange of views on other mutually interesting issues.
“In the course of discussions, the importance of peace, stability, security, and mutual cooperation in the region was emphasized.
In particular, we noted that the continuation of terrorist and separatist activities in the region constitutes a direct threat to the establishment of peace and stability in the region, the development of the economy, the security of international projects. We also emphasized the unacceptability of attempts by countries located outside the region to exacerbate the situation in the region. Once again, the importance of a peaceful settlement of conflicts based on the norms and principles of international law, including the principles of state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders, was emphasized,” said Zakir Hasanov.
The Minister reported that during the meeting between the defense ministries of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, there was a detailed exchange of views on the prospects for cooperation in the field of defense, military education, and military medicine, as well as the possibilities of conducting various joint activities and other areas of cooperation: “We noted the importance of intensifying exercises and training conducted in a trilateral format and conducting them in desert conditions. Conducting such joint exercises will contribute to operational coordination between our military units, create a basis for transitioning our trilateral activities to a new stage, and, as a result, regional security.
I should also note that in 2024, in Azerbaijan, we plan to hold a series of events in various areas of military cooperation in a trilateral format. I believe that the sincere relations between our states and our trilateral defense cfooperation serve as an example of partnership for the sake of peace, which can be an example for all. In this sense, our trilateral joint activities should be evaluated as a peace message aimed at maintaining stability in the region,” he emphasized.
