“The rapid and high-quality renewal of energy equipment during the war is a challenge for the energy sector. However, thanks to our partners, Ukraine can quickly restore damaged facilities, thereby strengthening energy security,” noted the Ukrainian Minister of Energy, Herman Galushchenko.
Since March 2022, Ukraine has received a total of 92 shipments of energy equipment from Azerbaijan, weighing over 1,585 tons, including 51 power transformers, 111 transformer substations, and other equipment. Thanks to this assistance from partners, a large-scale repair campaign in the energy sector has been carried out in Ukraine, adding more than 2.2 GW of capacity to the power system.
This is already the fourth tranche of aid from Azerbaijan.
It includes:
- Transformer substations,
- Power transformer,
- Wires,
- Disconnectors and other equipment for restoration and repair work.
The equipment received from Azerbaijan between November 2023 and January 2024 has been distributed among 24 enterprises in the energy sector, namely operators of electricity distribution systems, heat supply companies, and enterprises in the gas, coal, and nuclear industries.
“We thank our partners for this support. The provided equipment is being used by Ukrainian energy workers to restore facilities that continue to be subjected to hostile shelling, particularly in frontline regions. The work carried out allows us to maintain stable operation of the power system and meet the consumers’ needs for electricity and heating supply,” noted Galushchenko.
