“We are appalled by the loss of life over the course of this decades-long conflict and extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured. The United States is deeply concerned about reports of atrocities, and those responsible for any atrocities must be held to account. To reach peace and to heal, accountability is needed,” says the statement by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan regarding the mass burial site in the village of Edilli in Khojavand District.
“The US supports the steps Armenia and Azerbaijan are taking towards reaching a sustainable peace agreement and the US is committed to helping Armenia and Azerbaijan resolve issues peacefully. We support access for the ICRC, international NGOs, and journalists to conduct independent and impartial assessments of allegations of destruction and damage and to assess and investigate.”
